Weight Loss Example for a Flat Euro (16.28)
Our example is a Euro with very flat pavilion angles and a very heavy crown. The crown has 40° angles and a 48% table. Measurements: 10.06 x 9.45 x 4.25 mm. The diameter is irrelevant since the problem will be depth. Take the depth measurement (4.25 mm) and divide it by the desired depth percentage. This is where you have to be very careful. Since the crown angles
are so high and the table is so small, once the cutter has reduced these crown angles, the table will even be smaller. In fact the first thing the cutter will do is to open up the table on his scaife, so that he has a flat area to work from. Remember, the cutter uses the table
to measure crown and pavilion angles. Once the cutter has his final angles, which will be 34.5°, the table will shrink further. That forces the cutter to open it up to the smallest acceptable size (53%), which will make the depth percentage shallower at the same time.
