Hue, tone and saturation are three qualities that must be understood to fully grasp the definition of color. The proper expression of these terms as they relate to diamond, is essential, so that there can be no surprises for the buyer or seller. These terms will especially come into play when dealing with fancy color diamonds. On GIA reports, the lab uses up to 31 different hues, 11 tones and 7 saturation levels.
