The following illustrations are based on non-proportions repair, which is the re-cutting of a damaged diamond to, or very close to, its original proportions. Again, improving proportions can cause additional weight loss on either a chipped or a non-chipped stone. The
indicating factor of weight loss is not the surface area that a chip covers, but rather it is the chip’s depth into the stone. This also applies to a culet that has been broken away by a large chip.
