Irradiated Diamond Valuation (7.36)
Irradiated diamonds are valued by their appeal after the treatment is completed. As a buyer, be aware that they are worth far less than their natural counterparts. Even a very beautiful irradiated diamond should be valued on the basis of an off-color stone, plus a reasonable percentage for the treatment cost and visual appeal. If purchasing an intense fancy color from an unknown source, assume it is irradiated unless accompanied by a gem lab report authenticating its natural origin.
