Inclusions (6.17)

You will see many types of inclusions, each of which is extremely important to be familiar with. Inclusion identification by itself provides an easy way to authenticate a diamond. It is also important to remember the names of the various inclusions and blemishes in order to correctly communicate with dealers and the public (if you choose to open your business to that market). After familiarizing yourself with inclusions and blemishes, take the opportunity to examine as many diamonds as possible. If necessary, go out to jewelry stores and ask to look at their diamonds. The illustrations will give you a big head-start in recognizing clarity characteristics, but it won’t replace real hands-on, three-dimensional viewing.
