Grading Color in Rough (15.06)
Color can be just as deceptive as clarity in grading. Often the skin of the piece of rough hides the true tinted body color. For example, a rough piece with a
greenish skin will most likely end up as a medium to dark yellow. Even in a glassie, color may end up two to three grades lower in it's finished state. If the buyer is working with a very close margin between the buying price and the predicted selling price, that will often bring disaster.

A cutter may have a gut feeling for the color outcome, but 100% accuracy is rarely possible.
