GIA Clarity Grading System (6.09)
As with the GIA color grading system there are earlier and paralleling clarity grades that must be part of a diamond expert’s vocabulary. These other clarity grading systems are very similar to the GIA system. GIA’s will be the exclusive grading system that we will learn and put to use, but it is important to be familiar with the language and terms of the others to eliminate any possible confusion that might arise.
As you can see in the comparison chart there isn’t necessarily an exact correlation from one clarity grading system to the next. Note that GIA breaks down the better grades in more detail, whereas the British system breaks down the poorer grades to more detail.
