Estimating Depth (12.02)
The depth of the diamond can be truly impossible to measure in certain styles of mountings without removing the stone. In particular, this would include a closed-back mounting where the pavilion is completely hidden.
As previously discussed, the methods of determining the depth of a stone without taking actual measurements, especially come into play when these types of circumstances arise. The Table Reflection Method is very appropriate in helping to determine depth. (Subsection #5.17)
