Diamond Cleaning (6.46)

Diamond Cleaning (6.46)

As discussed several times before, the cleaning process is critical to accurate grading. If the diamond has just been removed from its mounting and is dirty, try rubbing it vigorously in a bit of salt in the palm of your hand . Wipe it clean with your polishing cloth. If a lot of dust or lint appears on it after cleaning, a can of compressed air is effective in removing it.

Mounted diamonds will have to be cleaned with a brush and detergent, and rinsed well under hot water. The canned air will still be helpful to dry the stone. Ideally, a professional ultrasonic cleaner and steamer speeds the process and does a thorough job.
